Ten on Top W/ Five Below| Summer 17' Edition

It is the 9th month of the year and Cardi B has literally made a believer out of all of us. She has the #2 song in the country and even got Kodak Black on the remix for her hit "Bodak Yellow". While that is an awesome accomplishment for Cardi, we are here for my Summer 17' playlist. I am aware that a few of you have been patiently waiting for an update and I do apologize for the wait and hiatus. I have a bunch of awesome post lined up for you guys that I hope will bring back nostalgic memories as well as invoke thought and spark conversation. I wanted to come back with my summer playlist because unlike summers back when I was an adolescence I do not get to parlay during the summer or even go out  for that manner these days. So my music intake is limited to late night binges on Youtube and my amped up Spotify list. I hope you guys enjoy this entry. And check out the dope visuals that I picked for summer 17' I think a few of  you will agree that my picks are spot on.

Trinidad James X Bankroll Fresh| Daddy D Video Bomb w/o Rate

Initially I was thinking it was a sick joke when I saw it featured Bankroll Fresh but once I actually saw him in the video, I was instantly sad. Even after death he still lives. That is one thing I can say I love about music. Even after the musician dies, their music lives forever. This particular song is on my current playlist and is definitely added to the favorites vault. Trinidad James won me over about two years ago. And while others may not like his style, I appreciate it. I have to admit it was rather creepy to see Bankroll in the video. I know it most likely was made prior to his demise but given it was recently released makes it that much of a reminder that he is no longer making music. I did not include a rate with this video bomb given the artist are both well known. Check out the latest Trinidad James visuals for "Daddy D" with an eerie yet appreciated last look at Bankroll Fresh.

OneShot Hot|Video Bomb w/ Rate

Over a month ago OneShot Hot released a video called  "BrightHouse" It is directed
by Walka Visionz and at this point you guys should know I am a stickler for visuals. I was not all to thrilled with his lyricism as the lyrics were a little basic. I think with more challenging topics and being able to incorporate other words he will be someone to watch out for. The production was sick and it definitely gives you that trapper feeling and while the visuals weren't that complex it was a step above what most rappers do. He had simple scenes but I like that he didn't take the easy route and throw in a strip club scene with half naked girls dancing. If I have said it once, I'll say it again that scene is tired and played out and so cliche. I applaud whomever assisted him in deciding how his scenes were going to be because I know how easy it is to just say "go find some girls" The absence of females allowed me as a viewer to see OneShot Hot as an artist. While I think he can definitely do better lyrically I think he has potential to rise if he's willing to put the work in. Rap is more than having the funds to flash a couple stacks and produce a video. I thought the hook was catchy and after about the forth run back I caught myself even saying it.I am anticipating what is next and I hope he is working on those lyrics as I type. As always I have done a rate on this video and you can check it out below along with a few stills from the video.

Hip Hop Honors:| All Hail The Queens

Last night VH1 honored female emcee's that have changed the game. I feel like this was well over due. Salt and Pepa ft. DJ Spinderella, Queen Latifah, Lil Kim, and Missy Elliot all were honorees at last nights awards show. This is my second award review and this one I have so much to say. EVE the Ruff Ryders female front runner was the host as well as performed in some of the tributes. How appropriate it was to have her host this years Honor. First off, I loved the tributes but I have to point out Lil Mama's excessive need to spend more time on the stage then she is allotted. The damn door was sliding close and she barely made it into it. She has the perfect animation though for the Lil Kim tribute and  they even enlisted Trina, Dej Loaf, Keke Palmer, Dreezy and Da Brat to name just a few of the female artist that honored those women last night. And am I the only one that thinks Ashanti was a decent rapper last night? She actually killed it. I loved the Naughty by Nature tribute to Queen Latifah and all the iconic fashions being immulated on stage. MY GOD! I could not handle it. Let me touch on the fact that Rich Homie Quan bombed on Biggie's verse and it was sad. How can you call yourself a rapper and not know the line or at least took the time to learn it before you had to get your butt up on stage next to the Queen B. I honestly haven't seen a Hip Hop Honor's since they did the Dirty South edition and I LOVED that one! This one was good and definitely needed. These women along with all the one's who graced the stage to pay homage fight to be taken serious in a male dominant industry. They have battled, fought, and proved they can keep up with their male counterparts. And a few of their male peers came to show love last night. It was good to see images of the old Lil Kim. I don't care to know why she wanted to change that is her business but I just love the way she use to look. Besides realizing that Teyanna Taylor killed the Lil Kim tribute, we were reminded that Hip Hop touches everybody and everything. The first family is up on Hip Hop, Fashion designers like Marc Jacobs is up on Hip Hop, and even the likes of Betty White can quote a Latifah line. Last nights show was good and if you missed out I'm sure you can catch it on Demand or on VH1. The recent police brutality issues are country has been faced with was brought up and it should be talked about daily. We cannot let these injustices go unknown. And as long as these Queen's have these platforms its safe to say they will continue to put our community up!

Twenty|16: Ten on Top, Six Below

Twenty years ago I was merely a seven year old girl. Still rocking barrettes and plaits and listening to whatever my twenty three year old older sister was listening to. I can recall moments of nostalgia as I compiled this list. Most of these songs if not all of them are going to jog a few memories, so I apologize in advance. These visuals are outrageous and the fashion sense was ridiculous. I hope you guys enjoy this list just as much as I did making it. Where were you in 96' when the music was just right? Where were you when this plethora of Rap and R & B dominated our radio waves, car stereos, and parties?  Check out what was rockin hot twenty years ago.

Song Bomb: JF X King Phy| Fever W/ Rate

Produced by Chris Prythm, the production is the foundation that sets the tone for the Hip Hop vibe that Jack Fletcher embodies. Featuring "Trappin Outta Space" mastermind King Phy Da Beast. The mash up between both artist couldn't be more opposite but King Phy took on an entirely different sound in this track. It was as if Jack Fletcher gave a little of his artistry to bring another persons inner hip hop vibe to the table.Given the countries on going battle with the Black Lives Matter movement and the countless American civilians being assassinated by those who are sworn in to serve and protect us seems like the fuel behind the track. What Fever are we exactly trying to catch and or avoid. Is it the Fever of rising up or is it the fever of those that are sleeping during such a prevalent time. The cover art for the track is dope. It depicts a riot participant with a gas mask and a strong Black Power fist as officers stand off in the background in protective gear. These past two years have been the most racially driven with the murders of unarmed black people. We will never forget Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Eric Garner and countless other's that have lost their lives. One day we will rise up above our crooked government and we will win. All these deaths will not be in vain. Jack Fletcher serves a double dose of lyrical content as well as witty  punch lines that will definitely have the wheels in the brains of listeners turning. It is political, it is raw, it is current. This is what hip hop is about story telling while bringing awareness and I believe Jack does that time and time again. It is never something you've heard before he is always up on the times. I want all who have taken time to read this entry to really listen to the words of Fletcher and really get into his message. Check out the audio below a long with my rate for this track.
