Dreams $old Separately Review

So Mighty Jai reached out a while back and asked me to check out his mixtape
"Dreams $old Separately" and off rip I am just a lover of the usage of old samples. It simply gives the track an automatic plus for me because it gives it a timeless feel. I liked that it started out with an old feel and as I transitioned through each song there were different genre touches to each song. Listening to "King Solomon" I got a more modern rap feel but take the song "Deep" and I get a more cutthroat look into Might Jai's life. I loved the total Hip Hop vibe. It is always refreshing to come across an artist that isn't talking just about money, cars, and  hoes. There are bigger problems in the world and I'm glad he sheds life to those problems. I thoroughly enjoyed  this mixtape and can't wait to hear more from this dope artist. Also let me not forget to mention he included spoken words over music! That was another plus since I am a poet myself. I really appreciated the music offered and definitely recommend this mixtape.

February Spotlight Artist: Zxggy

Akeem Weston is a rapper who was born in Columbus Ohio and despite how his life started he is determined to make the rest of it the best...

With any person there is always a story, and like any other person Akeem is no stranger to the obstacles and trials that life offers. When he was only two he was given up for adoption and if that wasn't rough his adoptive mother later died of HIV/AIDS. After her death he was sent to live with his grandmother in St. Petersburg, Florida. He now resides here and even though he has adapted to his situation. Akeem's life has been anything but smooth, he has battled with depression stemming from his mother giving him away, his mother and grandmothers distaste for one another, and dealing with the fact of not knowing who his father was. His mother and grandmother's constant quarrels resulted in young Akeem being left at his mother's door step when he was eight years old, but all incidents from Akeem's past have done nothing but motivated him to make his life better. When he was in the seventh grade he started rapping and adopted the name Zxggy. Since the seventh grade and up until now he has dropped over ten mixtapes. His latest being PlanetHollywood. In 2010, Zxggy formed the rap group, Paper Cut Gang (PCG). But he recently left PCG in early 2013 to pursue personal endeavors. He still considers them to be his brothers to this day though. When you think about what his content is you can see that Zxggy raps with the pain and pride of a man who has gone through so much. From feeling unwanted by his own family, sleeping outside in the cold, to selling drugs to survive. Zxggy has a rough story to share and despite his trials and tribulations, He knows that his music is rare and unique. Kind of like his style. He doesn't seem much like a rapper but neither did Lupe. His personal goal is to awake his listeners when they're listening to his music and give those people a flare that no other can achieve. He is confident, determined, and he means business as he showed me just how hungry he is. I appreciate Zxggy for staying on me days after he had submitted his information. He kept me on my toes and it showed his hunger.I have to be honest and say, that he reminds me of a younger Wiz Khalifa and his style further confirms that for me. He won me over with his song, "Pussy is Power" and following close behind was "Max" a song about being on that maximum level. The turn up is real in that song and the production is sick. Shoutout to the producer Hipa Holics. I can't wait to see what Zxggy has in store for this new year but he is definitely someone to watch for. As always there is a Q & A below and several ways to connect with Zxggy below.

--M$C

Q & A with Zxggy:
[M$C]: I see in your Bio, you said you adopted the name Zxggy what exactly does it mean?
[ZXGGY]: Zxggy really means everything & nothing. It mean we will not be ran by rules it governed by the government it mean we will live life for ourselves!
[M$C]: Despite your rough start in life what or who do you consider kept you grounded?
[ZXGGY] I don't really consider myself grounded I'm only humble to a certain extent! But all jokes aside the drive to be famous keeps me level headed. If not for that & my son up in heaven I would be way more wild that what I am now.
[M$C]:Pussy is Power is one of my favorite tracks, what sparked the birth of the track? Besides the obvious
[ZXGGY]: Well the way I write my tracks are always from something I see immediately or 99.9% of the time usually about a muse of mine! I always say I only write music for "women who attract me, the chicks I hate & the ones who distract me". Pussy is power is about a stripper I loved.
[M$C]: Is there anyone mainstream that you look up to as far as their artistry?
[ZXGGY]:. I look up to many artists but the one that really has been my favorite artist over time is Prince if you can't tell by my music already! He was so wild you couldn't control him! He was erotic & sensual. Thing is his music always felt natural he never forced it!

--HOW TO WRITE AND SUBMIT A BIO WITH MSC --

I often receive music submissions with just links to music and even though I enjoy receiving links, I am often frustrated with the lack of presentation. I may love the music, but get to the bio and I'm like my five year old God daughter can write a better bio. With loving the music I want to share the music with the world and also present an artist (YOU) to the world. I appreciate the links they help at times but I only want them so they can be included along with your bio's so other music lovers can find and connect with you.  I understand that for some people writing is not their strong point but it takes nothing to read over it and see if you have all the basic information. I find that a lot of artist may have written their own bio’s up and they may not know how to properly word it. Have someone look over it. There is nothing more worst for me then finding a really good artist and they submit a couple of sentences and they want me to share their music or do a feature. I have nothing to build from. With all this being said. Please follow the following requirements for submitting bio's for "Spotlight Artist" features. There will be other post about how to submit, singles, videos, and other music content at a later date.

-M$C

1. Include a 250 minimum bio or the equivalent to 1 page (Please be advised I may condense the bio)
-Bio's should cover, location, name, achievements, singles, hottest mixtape, something interesting
2. Include a picture of yourself, or album/mixtape artwork
3. Links, ie: Videos,SoundCloud,Twitter,etc

If you are an artist and you are interested in submitting your music for review and a possible feature in #E2TS please email your submissions to  ms.streetcred@gmail.com. Include "MusicSubmission" in subject line to prevent being sent to spam or deleted.

The Prince of Orlando... [Spotlight Artist: Prince Greg]

With everyone now a days’ thinking they are the next big thing, there is no doubt in my mind that Orlando, Florida native Prince Greg will be big. His intricate lyrics and real world experience, reflects everything that a young black male thinks about or wants out of life. His intriguing titled mixtapes give the listeners just a preview of what type of person he truly is. Prince Greg states his claim as Rap's next king with his EP Release of   "More Than a Man" And if I can remain true to myself and be frank he has various songs that will draw the listeners in and really make you check for the next song, and the next song. So from a Prince he shall be King from what I have sampled and listened to. After releasing his last mixtape "Eagle Wings" earlier last year in March and landing on HotNewHipHop.com's Heatseekers [Edition 11], Prince Greg keeps the ball rolling with his "More Than a Man" EP  “More Than a Man” serves as a lead up to Prince Greg's upcoming mixtape “Less Than a God 2” and his newest EP release. The EP is straight to the point showcasing his aberrant & lucid lyricism, in his own words, Leave it to him to tell you why this upcoming EP is going to be worth the hear Prince Greg said "it shows why I'm up next." On "More Than a Man" Prince Greg mostly carry's the rapping torch by himself, but brings along his compadre’s Big Trin & BoGODY to take turns trading verses on the infectious  tracks "Way Too Young" & the luxuriant "Real Nigga Party". His Production finds itself ranging from EDM-Rap infused sounds to sample driven hip hop gems with credit to DJ Mustard, Cardiak, 1500 Or Nothin, The Futuristiks, @firehotbeats, Blood Diamonds, Bink & Yung Berg. Prince Greg shows immense drive and with continuous grind I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next few months his career just takes off  like a jumbo jet. Below I dig deep into who the artist known as Prince Greg is and I  find out what really inspires his music, why he named his mixtape MTAM and his process of picking songs for his mixtapes. I hope you guys enjoy the Q & A

Q & A WITH PRINCE GREG:

1.WHAT INSPIRES YOUR MUSIC?

Prince Greg : "What inspires my music is my life, my thoughts, the people I care for and everything I've been through for the most part. But also my desire to be great inspires me because at the end of the day when I'm in that grave my accomplishments will determine the imprint I made on the world."

2. WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO RAP?

Prince Greg : "I would always freestyle and play around with rapping from the age of 4 years old but I'd say about 6-7 years ago it grew from just a hobby to what I live for. Also just being influenced by the music and the artist of that era like Dipset, Lil Wayne & Lloyd Banks gave me a different perspective on rap from what I was use to in Florida's music scene and helped me cultivate my style."

3.HOW LONG DOES IT TYPICALLY TAKE YOU TO FIND THE RIGHT SONGS FOR YOUR MIXTAPES'?

Prince Greg : "On average I'd say it takes me 2-3 months to find the right songs for my projects. Writing and creating for me is a never ending routine but my projects usually spawn out of 4 or 5 tracks that I feel strongly about and then I build on-top of that. Along with that finding the right production for the feel and vibe of the project I'm creating plays a key & essential part in the process."

4. WHY DID YOU PICK MTAM AS A NAME FOR YOUR MIXTAPE? DID YOU HAVE OTHER CHOICES?

Prince Greg : "More Than A Man was chosen as the title because it's where I feel I am skillfully at amongst the music I hear in today's music climate. It also coincides with another mantra I love which is also a mixtape series of mine called 'Less Than A God'. I feel that when it comes down to bars & the quality of music being created I  am ahead of the pack so I am "More Than A Man", but I've yet to receive the accolades to match the skill I possess so that makes me still 'Less Than A God'. But best believe I'll reach that God status, just watch me."

King of the New South [Spotlight Artist: King Phy Da Beast]

Self-Proclaiming himself, “One of the hottest rappers on Earth.” You can’t really tell the Confident St. Petersburg, Florida native rapper King Phy he ain’t the Sugar Honey Ice Tea. He considers himself a rapper from a city that has no major support but he continues to put on for his city regardless of the skeptics. He has performed numerous shows throughout the U.S. with mainstream stars like Trick Daddy, Triple C’s, B.G. and Twista to name a few. He has also performed with local as well as indie artists. Being an 80’s baby had its’ perks and because music was so diverse back then he grew up listening to all types of music but Hip- Hop was just that genre he was naturally attracted to. He recalls being in his first group at the age of 6 and is ½ of the group “Da Real Loud Pack Mafia” ( who have been featured on worldcomeup.com) He gushes about being a great father to his sons and says Run-ins with the law and stints in jail and prison caused many setbacks in his music career but King Phy is back and ready to continue to show the world why he is King. He is anticipating the release of his latest Street Album sometime this year, “Trapping Outta Space”, which has all original production and a great balance of street life and sultry street anthems for the ladies. He comes across as a very well accepted rapper in his home town as well as in surrounding cities and states. But don't call him a rapper he prefers being called a "Clean Artist" He is also a business man and looks at himself as a mogul. He is the CEO of BUTCHA Block Muzik.  I see nothing but good for this artist as he brings Trap music a refreshing reboot with singles like “Street Dreams” and Sh*tted Again Haterz” I wish nothing but continued success to King Phy as he kicks off the new year with new music and another chance to soar in his artistry. Below are a couple links to his songs on soundcloud and official artwork for #TrappinOuttaSpace. There are also videos from a few years back that you can check out. As you guys should know I do a Q & A with the spotlight artist check out the dope responses from King Phy below.

[KING PHY]:2 Pac, Pimp C Rakeim, and Master P
[MSC]:What are your aspirations for your city and the future of music there?
[KING PHY]: To make the industry look here (St. Petersburg). There's a lot of talent but no major artist have come from here. Also starting a Youth Foundation to give back to the kids,  more jobs in the inner city, more business and an all around better community.
[MSC]:When is TOS dropping?
[KING PHY]: No date yet, but Soon!
[MSC]: What sets you apart from other rappers?
[KING PHY]: Even though I  do put my music online to be downloaded and viewed I am still old school with hitting the streets with music and selling it right out the back of my trunk.
